Honda's Withdrawal
Following a couple of torrid seasons and with the global economic downturn taking hold, Honda withdrew from Formula One at the end of the 2008 season. The team's withdrawal left a vacant spot on the grid, which was filled by the newly formed Brawn GP team. Brawn GP was formed by Ross Brawn, who had previously been the technical director of the Honda team. The team quickly became a contender, with Button winning the first race of the season in Australia.
